You can choose which request and response details IIS records in your website's access logs. This can help you collect the information needed for traffic analysis and troubleshooting, including original visitor details for websites that use Cloudflare.
This function is available for Windows websites.
Change the IIS log fields
- Sign in to your Hosting Control Panel.
- Select WEBSITES, then select Websites.
- Find the website that you want to configure and select More Functions.
- Under Security & Access, select IIS Log Manager.
- Select the IIS Log Fields tab.
- Wait until the current configuration shows Loaded from IIS.
- Select or clear the fields that you want IIS to record. You must keep at least one standard IIS log field selected.
- Select Save Log Fields.
- Review the AWStats warning, then select Save and Disable AWStats to confirm the change.
The new field selection applies to future IIS log entries. It does not add information to log entries that were already created.
Standard IIS log fields
You can select fields such as the date and time, client IP address, user name, site and server information, HTTP method, URL path and query string, HTTP and Win32 status, bytes sent and received, request processing time, user agent, referrer, protocol version, and host name.
The control panel displays the exact IIS field name beside each description. Keep the fields required by your log-analysis or troubleshooting process selected.
Cloudflare request fields
If the website uses Cloudflare, you can also record these request headers:
- Original visitor IP (CF-Connecting-IP)
- Cloudflare request ID (CF-Ray)
- Visitor country (CF-IPCountry)
- Visitor protocol (CF-Visitor)
These values are useful only when the request passes through Cloudflare and Cloudflare supplies the corresponding header.
Important information about AWStats
Changing the IIS log fields automatically disables AWStats (Visitor Stats). The modified IIS log format is not compatible with AWStats, so Visitor Stats may become inaccurate or stop working even if you enable it again manually.
If you rely on AWStats website analytics, do not change the IIS log fields. Download the existing IIS raw logs or use another analytics service instead.
Download IIS raw logs
To copy raw IIS log files into your hosting account for download, return to the Download tab in IIS Log Manager and select Download. You can then retrieve the copied files through File Manager.
